Thousands of Congolese attacked United Nations offices in at least three cities following the rebel capture of the town of Bukavu back in 2004. These are some pictures from that time given to me on my recent trip to the DRC.

A BBC correspondent in the Democratic Republic of the Congo capital, Kinshasa, said that crowds of angry students set UN vehicles on fire. UN troops fired tear gas at demonstrators in Kinshasa, said UN spokesman Hamadoun Toure.

There were also reports of anti-UN protests in Bukavu, Kisangani and Kindu.
