1990 Scandinavian Cruise

It was on July 3rd that my friend Don Livingston invited me to accompany him on a cruise through the fjords of Norway, stopping along the way in both Sweden and Denmark. The problem was that by the time I decided I could actually join him, the Los  Angeles passport office had already closed. Don's trip had been planned months ahead, but his companion dropped out at the very last minute, leaving Don stuck with an extra ticket. More importantly, Don was wheelchair bound and needed assistance with getting around and his medications, etc.
Donald flew from Los Angeles to Copenhagen, Denmark on the 5th of July, leaving me behind to renew my passport. I was scheduled to meet him in Denmark prior to our ships actual departure, but luck was not with me. Arriving after our ship had sailed, I spent two days in Copenhagen waiting for our ship to reach its next port, Bergen, Norway. Luckily for me however, my time in Copenhagen was well spent. It was there that I met a young man named Jens who took it upon himself to become my guide and companion for those two glorious days -- days which I shall never regret.
On to Norway I flew, meeting up with Don and the Sea Goddess. From there we traveled south once more, through Norway's glorious fiords, stopping in Oslo along our journey. Next it was off to Sweden, stopping in Marstrand and Stockholm. We finished our journey back in Copenhagen several days later.
As for the luxury ship herself, I was extremely pleased with my overall Sea Goddess experience. The excursions were included in the price, and were well-planned and informative. There is nothing like being handed a cool moist towel and a chilled glass of champagne upon returning to the ship after a refreshing ocean plunge, or, for that matter, after time spent jet skiing. The staff knew my name immediately upon arrival, and that personalized service was very welcome. Special requests at dinner were accommodated with pleasure, and the maitre d' took special pride in making his guests feel wonderful. Yes, the initial price shock may shave a few years off your life, but the lifelong memories will tell you that this ship gives a very high return on your investment.
